The shepherd town on the Lidder — pine valleys, film meadows and river air
Pahalgam lies roughly three hours southeast of Srinagar, where the Lidder runs bright and cold through a corridor of pine and deodar. The name points to its older life as a shepherds’ settlement. Today it is the valley stay that most travellers use to slow the itinerary — hotel lawns on the river, short drives to Betaab and Aru, and evenings that sound of water rather than traffic.
Two nights work well. One day covers Betaab Valley and the riverfront; the second can open toward Aru or a longer walk if the group wants more quiet than sightseeing.
Snow still hangs on the far ridges while the valley floor turns walkable and bright.
The classic Pahalgam stay — river lawns, picnic meadows and every side valley open.
Cooler nights, copper trees and some of the year’s best light on the Lidder.
A hushed hill town under snow. Choose this window if you want stillness more than circuits.
Most first-time circuits pair two nights here with Srinagar and Gulmarg. Share your travel month and we will pace the valley days for you.
