A small West Sikkim town known for close views of Kangchenjunga
Pelling is a small hill town in West Sikkim, set at about 2,150 metres, with a direct outlook toward Kangchenjunga — the world’s third-highest peak. On a clear morning the snow wall fills the horizon from hotel terraces and roadside viewpoints. The town itself is quiet compared with Gangtok: a short bazaar, lodges and a handful of cafés.
Close by are Pemayangtse Monastery, one of Sikkim’s oldest, the ruined palace of Rabdentse, and the sacred Khecheopalri Lake in the forest. Many travellers also visit Yuksom, the first capital of Sikkim, from here. The mountain is most often visible from October to December and again from March to May.
Sharp light on Kangchenjunga after the rains.
Milder days and flowering forests around town.
Cold air and frequent clear mornings.
Green hills, but the mountain is usually hidden.
Tell us your month of travel. Clear mountain views are most common from October to May.
