Ravangla & Borong

South Sikkim hill towns — Buddha Park at Ravangla and the quieter ridge of Borong

A south Sikkim ridge of parks and monasteries

Ravangla (Rabong) is a small town in South Sikkim, set on a ridge between Gangtok and Pelling at about 2,000 metres. Its best-known landmark is the Buddha Park — a large seated statue of Buddha on landscaped grounds with mountain views on a clear day. Nearby Ralang Monastery is an important Buddhist centre of the region.

Borong lies a short drive away on a quieter hillside of cardamom fields and village lodges. Together the two places offer a slower look at South Sikkim: prayer flags, terrace farms and evening views without the bustle of the capital. The comfortable visiting months run from October to May.
