Uttarakhand is open all year — the week is not the same
Mussoorie and Nainital, the Ramganga forest, Binsar, Chaukori, Munsiyari and Chopta do not share one “perfect month”.
For the circuits we actually run, March to June and September to November are the most versatile. Summer fills the hill stations. Autumn clears the Kumaon wall. Winter is for cold and possible snow. Monsoon turns the state green and makes long roads less honest.
When should you go?
| Season | Months | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Spring | March – April | Sightseeing, flowers, thinner crowds than May |
| Summer | May – June | Hill stations, families, escaping the plains |
| Monsoon | July – August | Green stays — not packed road circuits |
| Autumn | September – November | Clear peaks, photographs, Kumaon roads |
| Winter | December – February | Cold, quiet nights, possible snow higher up |
Spring and summer
March–April is comfortable in the hills and good for covering more than one halt without May’s school-holiday crush. Mussoorie, Nainital, Rishikesh, Binsar, Chopta, Chaukori, Munsiyari and Corbett all work.
May–June is the conventional family window. Higher towns stay cooler than the plains. Rishikesh and Haridwar run warmer and sit better next to Mussoorie than as a heat-week on their own. Corbett is still bookable; the terai gets hot as June goes on. Book Mussoorie and Nainital early on holiday weekends.
July and August
The state turns green. Falls run harder. Long Kumaon weeks toward Chaukori and Munsiyari need slack — rain, slips and slow roads. Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Nainital and Binsar can still be a stay-focused week. Distant peaks are often missing. Choose this season for greenery and quieter rooms, not a packed sightseeing list.
Autumn and winter
September to November is, for many people, the best Kumaon window. Skies open after the rain. Binsar, Chaukori and Munsiyari earn the drive. October and November are the months we recommend if the wall of peaks is the reason. Corbett, Chopta, Mussoorie and Rishikesh all sit comfortably here.
December to February is a different holiday — cold ridges, possible snow on Mussoorie and higher Kumaon, quieter rooms. Corbett pairs well with Nainital in the open safari months. Couples who like wood-stove nights do well; families who want easy lake weather usually pick spring or autumn instead.
