Kinnaur, Spiti, Chandratal & Manali

An unforgettable Himalayan road journey through some of Himachal’s most dramatic landscapes. From the green mountains and apple orchards of Shimla and Kinnaur to the high-altitude desert of Spiti, the scenery changes almost every day.

The circuit takes in ancient monasteries, remote villages, high mountain passes and Chandratal — the Moon Lake — before a last night in Manali. Kunzum and lake access depend on road and weather conditions. Stays mix hotels, guesthouses and a night at camp near the lake.

Hotels and guesthouses through Kinnaur and Spiti, a night near Chandratal, then Manali.

Daily breakfast and dinner at the stay. Lunches stay flexible on the long transfer days.

Day 01

Arrival in Shimla | Chandigarh – Shimla

Overnight · Shimla

  • Meet our representative at Chandigarh Airport / Railway Station and drive towards Shimla.
  • The road climbs from the plains into the Himalayan foothills.
  • Check in and rest. Depending on arrival time, explore Mall Road and The Ridge.
Day 02

Shimla – Sangla | Entering Kinnaur

Overnight · Sangla

  • After breakfast, check out and drive towards Sangla.
  • The route opens into forests, valleys, rivers and mountain roads as you enter Kinnaur.
  • Arrive in Sangla, check in and spend the evening in the Baspa Valley.
Day 03

Sangla – Chitkul – Kalpa

Overnight · Kalpa

  • After breakfast, drive to Chitkul, one of the most scenic villages in Kinnaur.
  • Spend time in the surroundings, then continue to Kalpa via Reckong Peo.
  • Kalpa is known for its quiet setting and views of the Kinner Kailash range.
  • Check in and keep the evening at leisure.
Day 04

Kalpa – Nako – Tabo | Entering Spiti

Overnight · Tabo

  • After an early breakfast, begin one of the most scenic drives of the journey.
  • Green mountains give way to the rugged high-Himalayan terrain of Spiti.
  • Stop at Nako, a remote village, then continue to Tabo.
  • Visit Tabo Monastery, one of the most important historic gompas in the region.
  • Check in and rest.
Day 05

Tabo – Dhankar – Kaza

Overnight · Kaza

  • After breakfast, check out and drive towards Kaza.
  • Stop at Dhankar for the monastery and the cliff-top view over the valley.
  • Continue to Kaza, the main town of Spiti Valley.
  • Check in. Evening at leisure or a walk through the local market.
Day 06

Kaza Local Sightseeing | High Villages of Spiti

Overnight · Kaza

  • Key Monastery — one of the most recognisable landmarks in the valley.
  • Kibber village and the high mountain landscape around it.
  • Chicham Bridge and the gorge below.
  • Langza, known for its setting and the Buddha statue.
  • Komic and Hikkim, subject to road conditions and available time.
  • Return to Kaza for overnight stay.
Day 07

Kaza – Kunzum Pass – Chandratal Lake

Overnight · Chandratal Camp

  • After an early breakfast, check out and drive towards Chandratal.
  • Cross Kunzum Pass, subject to road and weather conditions.
  • Chandratal — the Moon Lake — is among Himachal’s best-known high-altitude lakes.
  • Reach the designated point and walk in toward the lake as local rules allow.
  • Check in to the campsite or stay near the lake. Clear mountain skies after dusk.
Day 08

Chandratal – Batal – Atal Tunnel – Manali

Overnight · Manali

  • Wake to the high Himalayan surroundings, breakfast and check out.
  • Drive through Batal and the Spiti–Lahaul corridor toward the Manali side.
  • Depending on the operational route, travel via the Atal Tunnel into Manali.
  • Arrive by evening, check in and rest after the long mountain day.
Day 09

Departure from Manali

Transfer · Chandigarh Airport / Railway Station

  • After breakfast, check out from the hotel.
  • Transfer to Chandigarh Airport / Railway Station, or onward to your next destination.
  • The Kinnaur–Spiti–Chandratal journey ends here.
