Lepchajagat

A small forest settlement above the mist, a short drive from Darjeeling

A quiet pine hamlet off the town ridge

Lepchajagat is a small settlement in the forest between Ghoom and Sukhia Pokhari, about 20 km from Darjeeling town. The name points to the Lepcha people of the eastern hills. Pine and oak stand close to the lodges. On a clear morning Kangchenjunga appears above the treeline.

People come here for silence, short forest walks and bird calls rather than a bazaar. It works as a one- or two-night alternative to staying only in Darjeeling town. October to May is the comfortable season; monsoon wraps the woods in cloud.
