Sittong

The orange village of the Kurseong hills — orchards, birds and a lower, warmer ridge

Orchards on a quieter hillside

Sittong is a cluster of villages in the Kurseong subdivision, lower than Darjeeling town. It is known for orange orchards, cinchona plantations and forest that holds good birdlife. Homestays look across terraces toward the greater range on a clear day.

November to February is orange season, when the trees carry fruit and the weather is dry and cool. The rest of the dry months work for walking and birding. Sittong is often paired with Kurseong or used as a two-night village stay instead of another night on Mall Road.
