The compact first Ladakh week

Five nights is the shortest honest loop: two nights in Leh before the pass, one night in Nubra, one night on Pangong, then back to Leh. Pickup and drop are Leh Airport. Day one is rest — not a sightseeing day.

Khardung La is crossed on day three, after you have already acclimatized at Leh. Camel rides and other activities at Hunder are optional and extra. The Shyok road to Pangong depends on the day’s conditions; Chang La is the usual return.

Day 01

Arrival in Leh — acclimatisation

Overnight · Leh

  • Arrive at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport and transfer to the hotel.
  • The day is kept completely relaxed so the body can adjust to altitude.
  • Short easy walks only if you feel comfortable.
  • Avoid strenuous sightseeing, alcohol and hard activity on day one.
Day 02

Leh local sightseeing

Overnight · Leh

  • Shanti Stupa for the view over town.
  • Leh Palace and Sankar Monastery.
  • Time in Leh Market for handicrafts and a slow afternoon.
  • Return to the hotel and rest.
Day 03

Leh to Nubra via Khardung La

Overnight · Nubra Valley

  • After breakfast, drive toward Nubra and cross Khardung La.
  • Descend to the Shyok–Nubra trough and check in.
  • Diskit Monastery and the giant Maitreya if time remains.
  • Hunder sand dunes. Camel ride optional, extra, subject to the day.
Day 04

Nubra to Pangong via Shyok

Overnight · Pangong Lake

  • Leave Nubra after breakfast and take the Shyok route toward Pangong.
  • Barren walls, wide river flats and the first view of the lake.
  • Check into the lakeside camp or hotel.
  • Evening on the shore as the colour shifts.
Day 05

Pangong to Leh via Chang La

Overnight · Leh

  • Early morning on the lake.
  • After breakfast, return toward Leh across Chang La.
  • Photograph stops where the road allows.
  • Arrive Leh. Evening at leisure.
Day 06

Leh departure

Transfer · Leh Airport

  • After breakfast, check out.
  • Transfer to Leh Airport for your onward journey.
