Binsar

An oak sanctuary above Almora — the wall of peaks is the point, not a market

A quiet Kumaon night after Nainital

Binsar is a forest sanctuary above Almora, known for a long Himalayan wall on clear mornings — Nanda Devi and her neighbours when the air behaves. Walks stay inside oak and rhododendron. Zero Point is the usual dawn outing. This is not a shopping town.

Two nights let you wait for one clear morning. Combine after Nainital or Almora. Monsoon hides the wall. Winter is cold and very quiet.

Binsar

Famous for

  • A wide Himalayan wall on clear days
  • Oak and rhododendron sanctuary walks
  • Zero Point at first light
  • A slower Kumaon night than Nainital
  • Birds and a thin road, not a Mall

Best time to visit

  • March to June: walks and a chance of a clear wall
  • October to November: often the sharpest peaks
  • December to February: cold, empty, views after a clear night
  • Monsoon: the forest stays; the wall usually does not

Book Binsar for a morning, not a drive-by

Tell us if the peak view is the reason. We’ll put two nights so one cloudy dawn is not the whole trip.
