Nohkalikai Falls

A single white drop off the Sohra cliff — a railing viewpoint, not a swim

The photograph most Sohra mornings are built around

Nohkalikai is the tall plunge off the Sohra escarpment into a green pool far below. You watch it from a railed shelf. There is no walk to the base on a normal package day. Cloud can hide the fall for an hour and then lift.

Volume peaks in the monsoon; the view is often better in the dry months. Combine with Seven Sisters and Mawsmai the same morning, not as three separate expeditions.

Nohkalikai Falls

Famous for

  • A high single-drop fall on the Sohra cliff
  • The pool colour that changes with rain and light
  • A railed viewpoint — not a trek to the floor
  • The image most first Meghalaya weeks want
  • A Khasi story attached to the name

Best time to visit

  • October to April: a better chance the cliff is visible
  • Monsoon: maximum water, maximum mist
  • Early morning: fewer people on the rail
  • Winter: a thinner white line, a clearer wall
